MILTON KEYNES LITERARY FESTIVAL

The Holiday Inn,
Central Milton Keynes,
My North Vietnam Doa wall hangings will be exhibited at the Milton Keynes Literary Festival.
My husband and I went on a textile holiday to Vietnam and Cambodia in 2016. These wall hangings are inspired by our travels through the country and our interactions with the local people.
During our travels there were many spontaneous moments. For example, one lady showed us how she tied her headscarf; a very shy toddler waved at us wearing a hat adorned with tassles and coins to keep away the Evil Eye.
We visited lots of markets where people wore their traditional clothes and sold pieces of linen which they had woven, dyed and printed. This is the source of the materials used in these wall hangings. Whilst mostly Vietnamese in origin, the braids and bead fringe, incorporated into these artworks, are typically imported into Vietnam from China just across the border.
